Antique (Vintage) Original Postcard, Standard Size, 3.5" by 5.5", Litho, 1900-1910s, Africa. Excellent Condition.  

Kankan is the second largest city in Guinea, located on the River Milo in eastern Guinea. It had a population of 100,192 in 1996 census, and estimates of its current population vary considerably. It was founded by the Soninké people in the seventeenth century and became capital of the Baté Empire and an important trading centre, particularly for kola nuts. It was defeated by Samory Touré in 1879 and occupied by the French in 1891. The population of the city is predominantly from the Mandinka ethnic group and their their language is widely spoken throughout the city.
